Youth Services Division for the Richmond Police Department is responsible for a variety of activities and crimes that impact the youth of Richmond, Indiana. There are three "School Resource Officers" that work in the Richmond Community Schools: one each in Richmond High School, Test Middle School, and Dennis Middle School. These officers also work closely with the various elementary schools in their areas. There are two officers that work with investigations involving juvenile crimes and one officer assigned to investigate serious abuse crimes against children. All of the officers of the Youth Services Division work with the Richmond Community School system teaching D.A.R.E. and other life skills as requested by the schools.
Youth Services Division officers spend a large amount of their summer time working at Camp Clements 2 and Safety Village. Both of these camps work to teach safety, confidence, and life skills to area youth from pre-school ages through early adulthood. With help from the officers, teachers, counselors and support staff, these camps have proven to be a great learning experience for the camp participants.
