




Richmond Police Department Qualifications and Requirements for
Employment
Applicant must be a United States Citizen;
Applicant must be 21-35 years of age at time of hire; Applicant must be a High School Graduate
(GED);
Applicant must meet Indiana residency requirements at time of hire;
Applicant must meet Vision Standard: set by the Local Police Pension Board as mandated by
State Law requirements and PERF Standards.
Applicant must have never been convicted of a Felony or a "Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic
Violence" as defined in the Enacted Omnibus Consolidated Appropriations Act of 1997" - An
amendment of the Gun control Act of 1968.
Applicant must be able to pass a physical examination, including an agility test;
Applicant must be physically capable of:
Bending and stretching in order to accomplish tasks of pushing, pulling, grasping and carrying of
objects having a weight of 80 pounds or more;
Either walking or running a distance of as much as ½ mile and up and down stairs.
Dragging or carrying weights up to 150 pounds for 60 feet for 15 seconds.
Firing a gun with both hands;
Withstanding periods of cold and heat while performing tasks such as traffic control or crime
scene protection;
Operating a motor vehicle under extreme conditions in emergency situations;
Applicant must not have any involvement with any illegal drugs (must pass a drug screen); n;
